Established in 1975 by Bob and Barbara at their property Barwood in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Bo-Bar Poll Dorsets has spent more than five decades building a reputation for breeding structurally sound, productive sheep designed to perform in commercial production systems.
Today, the stud is led by Jamie and Rhyll alongside their son Lochie, with the next generation helping shape the future of a business built on family values, long-term relationships and continuous improvement.
Lochie's partner, Sienna, also plays an important role within the business, supporting marketing, communications and helping ensure the Bo-Bar story is shared in a way that reflects the people, values and breeding philosophy behind the stud.
Bo-Bar's breeding approach focuses on balanced genetics and predictable commercial performance, producing practical, data-backed sires that help commercial producers breed sheep that are efficient, profitable and fit for purpose.
Between February and April 2026, we worked alongside the Bo-Bar team through our 90-Day Marketing Mentorship Program.
Like many established stud businesses, Bo-Bar had built a strong reputation through decades of breeding decisions, loyal clients and word-of-mouth referrals. However, as the next generation became increasingly involved, there was an opportunity to better communicate the story behind the stud and build marketing systems that felt genuine, organised and aligned with the business they are continuing to grow.
Together, we focused on creating practical tools and systems to support the next stage of the business, including an annual content plan, clearer messaging, a new website, their first newsletter and a framework for consistently sharing the story behind Bo-Bar.
For Sienna, one of the biggest shifts was gaining confidence in how the business presents itself and connects with clients.
"We had made the decision to build our business and needed support marketing ourselves that felt genuine to us."
One of the most rewarding outcomes has been the stronger relationships Bo-Bar has built with existing and prospective clients.
"We've had more of a connection with our clients which has felt great, especially in terms of feedback, because it's not something we've had before as a business.
We've also sent out our first newsletter and created our own website which has helped us feel more confident in our professionalism."
Sienna says one of the most valuable resources to come out of the program has been the annual content plan.
"The annual content plan is like a bible for us. It's great!"
Today, Bo-Bar continues to build on more than fifty years of breeding knowledge and experience while embracing new ways to communicate with clients, strengthen relationships and ensure future buyers understand the story behind the genetics.
Reflecting on the experience, Sienna's advice for others considering investing in their marketing through Mallee Marketing is simple:
"Do it! So empowering learning the tools to support you through the entire process."
At its heart, the Bo-Bar story is about carrying a legacy forward, combining decades of breeding decisions with the energy, ideas and perspective of the next generation to ensure the business continues to thrive for years to come.
